I am a painter and arts educator
whose works develops as a direct response to experiences of environment.
Work is created principally through the process of drawing and mark
making, but is often supported through a range of media including
photography and video.
The format of this work can vary
from series of small multiples to large-scale pieces, but it is
essentially focussed on determining and conveying a perception of
how an environment is. Through this work, an appropriate language
of colour and gestural, expressive marks is developed. I am also
concerned by the physical quality of my materials and will combine
found substances, industrial and domestic paints with more traditional
oil based media. The physical reaction that can be developed when
these materials are put together is central to the development of
these pieces.
Issues of the process and place
of painting remain at the fore, as I involve myself in a careful
and considered making process, developing a personal, engaged and
integrated relationship with my subject matter.
